Without surprise, Adobe is encouraging its employees to use Android internally according to CNET News.
In response to Steve Job's heavy criticism of the Flash platform both for rich web media and application development platform, Adobe is planning to demonstrate a version of Flash running on Google's Android operating system as early as May. It is expected that Google's next update to the Android Operation system "Froyo" (Android 2.2) will bring support for Flash.
At this point, it isn't clear which Android device will be officially endorsed by Adobe for internal use, but one can only speculate one of HTC's many newer hardware such as the Google Nexus One, HTC Incredible, or HTC Desire.
Not only is there an iPhone app for just about anything you want to do, but now you can also get an app to keep your hands warm. Now, you can turn on your hand warmer iPhone app and leave your iPhone in your pocket in winter and that will keep your iPhone warm when you need it. Unfortunately, it only works for one hand only today.
Videos have made it onto YouTube showing the multitasking features of the new iPhone OS 4.0 coming soon to your iPhone. Multitasking will be available on the next generation iPhone due to be announced later this year, as well as for existing iPhone 3GS devices. iPhone 3G and prior models will have to live without this feature.
There is no news yet on whether multitasking will be offered on the iPad, but no doubt if the feature is built into the OS, the hacking community will find a way to enable it.
Lots of action this week on the Apple front for the iPhone. Here is a recap of this week's events:
Apple scheduled a preview event this week to reveal the new iPhone OS 4.0. Included in the release will be multitasking and an advertising network, called the iAd Mobile Advertising Platform.
Apple also introduced Game Center for centralized leaderboards and achievements for games purchased on the App Store.
With the release of 4.0, Apple also brings iBooks ebook reader application to the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Sadly however, the new operating system will not be available for the original iPhone or the 1st generation iPod Touch. Only the 3G and 3GS models will be supported.
This cannot be real. After much requests from iPhone users, it seems that Apple is finally ready to introduce the super advanced feature of multi-tasking into the iPhone operating system. It is with hope that this feature will finally silence their critics that the iPhone is a dumb phone.
There are many rumors on how Apple will handle multi-tasking. Though sources close the the development project have no revealed any more detail regarding multitasking, one can only hope that Apple will introduce an Expose like feature for finding your multi-tasked apps. Apple did not have to introduce multi-tasking into its iPhone operating system because that feature is already inherently built-into the kernel. However, due to hardware resource limitations and user experience needs, Apple had artificially reduced the multi-tasking capabilities within the operating system.
We know that multi-tasking is possible because there already exists applications in the jail-broken environment that allows multi-tasking without any severe degradation in user experience. For more information and speculation about this potential new feature, visit our friends over at AppleInsider.
The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is on at Barcelona this week where anything related to cellular and mobile technology will be showcased giving a sneak preview of what is coming down to consumers in the upcoming year. At MWC, Opera Software has been showing off their Opera Mini software made for the iPhone. In other mobile platforms, the Opera Mini has been known to be the fastest browser experience because all requested URLs are sent to an Opera Server first to be rendered and then returned to the Opera Mini browser on the phone using a proprietary format. The result is up to 90% faster performance than traditional browsers on your phone.
Opera Software has not yet submitted Opera Mini to Apple's app store for approval. We can all hope that this app gets approved, but Apple's policy has always forbidden applications that too closely resemble Apple's own application in functionality (i.e., Safari).
Consumer Reports is reporting that iPhone consumers are hogging more data than any other smart phones. The report also hinted that this proliferated usage of data could be one of the reasons AT&T is having problems with their data service. AT&T is currently the exclusive mobile provider for the iPhone in United States.
On average, iPhone users consume 273 MBs of data per month. That compares with 54 MBs for consumer users of Blackberrys and 150 MBs for consumers who use other brands of smart phones, the Validas study found.
Validas, the research firm that performed the study for Consumer Reports, was clear to point out that the research paid attention to consumer users only and explicitly excluded business users, whose consumption of data is typically higher in other smart phone devices like the business-must Blackberry.
What are the chances that we will see either a Microsoft Zune phone or a convergence device between Windows Mobile and Zune at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in about 2 weeks? We have seen that the Zune HD media player is an extremely capable device that is more than equipped to become a cellular device.
With the Apple forecasted roadmap projecting a new iPhone 4G to be released this summer, the announcement of any phone from Microsoft could be pivotal to the success of the Redmond company. We have seen Microsoft successfully take over a segment with the Xbox console and there is no reason that Microsoft cannot repeat this again with the Zune phone or similar device. They key to success for Microsoft will be the ecosystem, of which there is no doubt that Apple has the best.
More than likely though, the world will get its first glimpse at a technical preview of Windows Mobile 7 incorporating Zune as "...part of the phone experience".
It is easy to see how these photos were overlooked over the hype of the Apples tablet announcement on January 27, 2009. Our friends at AppleInsider.com are speculating about the new iPhone based on the few very low-quality lea
ked photos. One thing is for sure is that the new iPhone might carry the same form-factor that made it so successful over the last 3 years. Why change what's broken right? Most of the improvements to the iPhone to make this an A+ upgrade as quoted by Steve Jobs is likely to be under the hood.
In the mean time while waiting for the new iPhone 4G, maybe you could pick one of these bad boys on eBay. Prices are sure to drop closer to June/July as the new iPhones are speculated to be released.
